Acceleration Grant - Payment method

  • Physicians can follow these steps to receive the payments directly to their bank account:
    • Log into the AMA member dashboard on the AMA website
    • Once you’re logged in, go to “CII/CPAR Payment”, and click on “Banking info” to select a bank account from the drop-down list
  • Physicians who do not select a bank account, will receive a cheque by mail
  • If they have a PC bank account, they must contact the Membership department membershipgeneral@albertadoctors.org
  • Non-AMA members will receive a cheque in the mail
  • Some physicians are only receiving $750 as a data submission payment for encounters only because their encounters went live the month before their panels went live. Once panels have been submitted for three months they will receive the $850 top-up payment if all other criteria have been met
  • If physicians have questions about their CII/CPAR Acceleration Grant payments they can email: ciicpar@albertadoctors.org

EMR Updates

  • CHR: Fully conformed but encounters still flowing to test environment. Resources are available on our website

Top question from the session

Can we change how the specialty type is displayed Alberta Netcare?

  • Unfortunately, which specialty is displayed on Netcare entries (such as Consultation Reports) is based on the provider's skill code which gets automatically pulled from the EMR and is tied to billing
  • If a physician has multiple skills codes, these can be manually changed but the process often requires multiple clicks in the EMR
  • Typically, consultations are not uploaded to Netcare from primary care, so providers generally know that a Fam Med Consult showing up in Netcare would be someone with a subspecialty. If you hover over the consult in the document tree, additional information does appear including the facility name. Full contact details are provided in the header of the consult if opened

Key takeaways

Privacy concerns are a barrier for some physicians

Tips for addressing common privacy-related concerns:

  • Review the 1-pager “CED Mapping” document for the physician’s EMR. Reinforce what data isn’t sent (e.g. text-based chart notes) as much as what data is being sent. You can find these data maps in our Resources Centre
  • Discuss the fact that every conformed EMR gives the physician the ability to prevent data from flowing to Netcare at either the patient or encounter level
  • In this 2017 survey, Alberta patients’ indicated they were not only comfortable with CII/CPAR-level information sharing, they expect it to already be in place, and they are disappointed to learn that it’s not. Physicians are not required to have individual conversations with patients about participating in CII/CPAR.  They need only have a Health Collection Notice available to their patients (example)
  • If the concerns are around how this information will be used by Alberta Health or Alberta Health Services, you might consider:
    • Reviewing the data governance structures already in place, and mention that there has been no historical use of this data
    • If more details are needed, you might refer them to the CII/CPAR Data Elements table.  This outlines the information collected via CII/CPAR, including elements that aren’t visible in Netcare
      • The most sensitive data sent via CII/CPAR is arguably the patient health information (which is stored securely in Netcare along with lots of other personal health information), and physician billing data.  Alberta Health already collects billing data for these physicians in order to compensate them
