Updates

Acceleration Grant update

The CII/CPAR Acceleration Grant has been extended to Mar 31, 2026. AMA will continue to distribute the remaining $3.3 million of this Alberta Health-funded grant.
Please encourage all eligible physicians (family medicine and non-family medicine specialists) to get onboarded to CII/CPAR soon.

CPAR Patient List now available

A new Panel List Report is available in the CPAR Online Portal (CSV format) for authorized Panel Admins. It lists all panel patients, including PHN, issuing authority (e.g., AB, SK), ID type, DOB and gender and is an important tool for addressing conflicts. Connect attendees have confirmed the reports are working and useful.

Patient Summary Report - Healthquest

CII’s new Patient Summary Report will go live in all CII/CPAR-participating HealthQuest clinics in August. Sending Patient Summaries to Netcare from community-based clinics is yet another way that CII/CPAR is breaking down information silos for Alberta patients. We look forward to other vendors developing Patient Summary functionality!

Q&A Highlights

Q: What should clinics and PCNs do when a patient isn’t flowing to CPAR despite the chart looking correct?
A: Check again! In most cases, the issue is related to an EMR setting in the patient’s chart.  Common issues that are frequently overlooked include:

  • Confidentiality or privacy masks applied to the patient’s chart
  • CPAR Errors or Demographic Mismatches preventing attachment

Connect participants suggest looking at historical settings in the chart that may have prevented a past upload (e.g., an Inactive status).

If all potential causes for the failed patient upload have been ruled out, contact ciicpar@albertadoctors.org. Please ensure your email does not contain PHNs or any patient health information.

Q: How do we handle CPAR conflicts generated after the patient is seen at the same clinic by another physician?
A: Check if the patient has been attached to more than one panel within the EMR which is possible in some EMRs. Instruct clinic staff on how to avoid paneling to more than one physician in their EMR, and remind them that a patient should not be added to a CPAR panel when a patient is seen only episodically by another physician.

Q: Are there any updates on CHR Encounters?
A: Encounters for CHR will be enabled soon , but no firm date has been provided.
