This change will affect some commonly ordered tests.

Lab bulletin: Change to amiodarone and metabolite testing
Effective Feb. 3, the Amiodarone and Metabolite Level test will be performed using a new methodology: Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry. There will be a change in critical value, therapeutic ranges and linear range. There will be no change to ordering and collecting for this test.

Lab bulletin: Interim changes to HIV viral load testing

HIV-1 viral load and HIV NAT testing have been transitioned from the Abbott m2000 platform to the Hologic Panther Aptima Quant assay as per the following timelines:

  • Feb. 2 for HIV-1 viral loads from the Southern Alberta Clinic
  • HIV-1viral load/HIV NAT testing performed at the Public Health Laboratory in Edmonton will be at a later date.

Please continue to use your current HIV-1 viral load orderable.

With this transition, HIV-1 viral load results will now be reported in both copies/mL and log10 copies/mL, the format of the Aptima HIV-1 Quant Dx assay. These units will replace prior reporting unit formats.
