APL merging duplicative requisitions
When a requisition for the same test is submitted by two or more providers, Alberta Precision Labs (APL) is now merging those duplicative orders whenever possible, instead of collecting separate specimens for requisitions that ask for the same tests.

As of July 22, labs will only collect enough blood for one test, and the results will be sent to all providers who ordered the test. As a result, patients will have less blood drawn and may see shorter wait times.

Community providers will notice that they will be listed as an Authorizing Provider or Coordination of Care Recipient on result documentation, simply to note that there is more than one provider ordering the tests.

All providers who order the test results remain clinically responsible for the results, and all ordering providers will get a call from APL about critical test results.

Alberta wildfire information update
The Town of Jasper and Jasper National Park have issued an evacuation order for all residents and park visitors. They have been encouraged to evacuate to Grande Prairie, Calgary or Edmonton where reception centres are available to provide support. The town has also declared a state of local emergency.

Cardiac test results available in My Personal Records
Beginning June 18, results for five different tests will be available in the Government of Alberta’s My Personal Records (MPR) application via My Health Records. Alberta Health continues to work on making more information available in MPR, and Albertans can expect to see an increase, over time, in the amount of personal health information in this application. These test results will also be immediately available in MyAHS Connect, for those patients who have access. The five tests are:
  • Stress Test
  • Holter Monitor
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Electromyography (EMG)
