Nearly one year ago, on December 19, 2024, the Primary Care Physician Compensation Model (PCPCM) was jointly announced, answering the long-awaited call for a new Alberta-made compensation option to stabilize family medicine practices and clinics.

PCPCM officially launched with much enthusiasm on April 1, 2025! Since the announcement, AMA-ACTT has facilitated adoption and model implementation, supporting:

  • 1,350+ physicians who submitted an Expression of Interest
  • 1,100+ physicians who successfully applied and are live on the model

Physician enrolment continues to grow each month, demonstrating the PCPCM as one of Alberta’s most successful, in-demand funding models! The AMA remains focused on championing physician adoption and supporting family physicians and rural generalists in delivering comprehensive, longitudinal patient care.

Our Financial Calculator (member login required) is one of the many tools that interested physicians can use to estimate their future earnings on the model. It uses individual physician claims and panel data to demonstrate the impact on daily and weekly earnings, providing a quick, accurate comparison of PCPCM vs Fee-for-service.

Why not make it a PPIP activity?
Our sample PPIP Action Plan for Conflicts can help clinics and teams get started and fulfill a CPSA requirement.
