Understanding dual practice:

CPSA's role and what's next

The Government of Alberta has introduced changes to enable dual practice in Alberta. In response, the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) is developing a draft Standard of Practice to help ensure physicians continue to meet their professional and ethical obligations, with a focus on patient interests, independent clinical judgment, continuity of care and transparency.
 

Physicians will have an opportunity to provide feedback when the draft standard is released for consultation. Updates and engagement opportunities will be shared through the CPSA website, CPSA's newsletter The Messenger and AMA channels.

Help advance Indigenous health and wellness across Alberta

The Indigenous Health Committee (IHC) was created to operationalize the AMA Policy Statement on Indigenous Health and advises on how to improve access to and delivery of health services for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in Alberta.
 

IHC plays a key role in amplifying Indigenous voices, perspectives, knowledges and practices within the health system. Currently, IHC is seeking to fill two vacancies. Members interested in advancing Indigenous health and wellness are encouraged to apply by August 20.

Your voice matters. Join the Alberta Medical Association’s MD+MLA information session to learn how physicians can build constructive relationships with elected officials and bring frontline health care experiences to the conversations shaping Alberta’s future. Whether you are ready to meet your MLA or just want to learn more, this session is an easy first step toward making a meaningful impact.

Stipend-cARP transition support

Specialist physicians affected by the end of stipends can access an expedited cARP transition process by contacting Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS) at health.arpinfo@gov.ab.ca. While the PPHS deadline is August 17, physicians are encouraged to reach out by August 7 and complete AMA’s Planning Template.

Community Connections

Mistreatment within the clinical learning environment

University of Calgary residents and physicians who completed residency or fellowship training within the past two years are invited to participate in a study on experiences with reporting intimidation, harassment and discrimination, and accessing support services.

Participation involves a 10–15 minute anonymous survey with an optional follow-up interview. The study is ethics-approved.
