Consultation 025: CPSA now seeking your feedback on three standards

Provide your feedback before January 11, 2023

To comply with changes to the Health Professions (Protecting Women and Girls) Amendment Act, 2022, Bill C-7 and the Mental Health Services Protection Regulation, CPSA drafted a new Female Genital Mutilation standard of practice and revised both the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) and Safe Prescribing for Opioid Use Disorder standards.

CPSA Council approved these standards for consultation at their December meeting and you are invited to provide your feedback before January 11, 2023.

Enhancements to eReferral

coming January 2023

Upgrades are coming soon to Alberta Netcare eReferral that will enhance provider and team visibility into the status’ of referrals.

Starting January 20, 2023, referrals sent into FAST (Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment) across the province will be visible in Alberta Netcare for authorized users. Currently, this includes referrals for Urology and Orthopedics. In Edmonton, all existing FAST referral specialties will also be visible starting January 27, 2023.

The referrals will be visible for each patient through the Clinical Document Viewer (CDV) tree. Authorized users who submit referrals will also be able to use the new My Referrals Dashboard view to see the status of all of their referrals.

Referring providers will continue to send in referrals by fax; sending referrals via eReferral remains optional. (Note: Edmonton Urology is an exception.)

Receiving providers will also notice some minor changes to workflows and dashboards.

Over the next two years, 11 additional surgical specialties are in queue to join FAST. As these specialties go-live they will also be visible in Alberta Netcare.

A reference document with more information about all of the eReferral enhancements for referring and receiving providers will be available online in early January.

Apply today! Informatics Advisory Committee.

The deadline to apply is January 6.

The purpose of the Informatics Advisory Committee is to represent members and provide advocacy efforts in the form of feedback, implications and advice on provincial informatics initiatives. The committee also presents informatics issues to the AMA Board of Directors for awareness, advice and direction and coordinate representation across informatics priorities.

Need your Privacy Impact Assessment updated? Reduced PIA rates for CII/CPAR!

For a limited time only, community-based clinics that need their Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) updated to participate in CII/CPAR will be offered reduced rates to hire select PIA consultants. A list of privacy consultants is available for clinics that have submitted a CII/CPAR Confirmation of Participation (COP) and have been informed they need to update their PIA. These consultants and companies are not endorsed or vetted by the AMA.

To learn more about updating a PIA for your own clinic, sign up for the “Do-It-Yourself Privacy Impact Assessment” course in the Advanced privacy training curriculum offered through Learn@AMA.

Supporting injured workers: What information can employers request?

Supporting injured workers to remain at or return to work safely is a critical part of their recovery. The medical information you provide helps your patients, employers and WCB claim owners to create collaborative and timely plans.

On occasion, employers and/or their representatives may contact physicians directly to request worker/patient medical information and/or status updates regarding a work-related injury.

Health care providers who perform decision-making capacity assessments in the community, home living, supportive living, long-term care, acute care or rehabilitation institutions are invited to complete a survey that will determine the characteristics of DMCAs done virtually.
