Connect Care identifiers &

launch sequencing update

Connect Care continues to be one of Alberta Health Services’ highest organizational priorities. Upcoming launch dates have been confirmed, as follows:

  • Launch 4 – May 28 – Sites in Calgary and Edmonton zones
  • Launch 5 – November 6 – Sites in Calgary, Central and North zones; some provincial programs (including Cancer Care Alberta)
  • Launch 6 – Spring 2023 – Calgary and provincial lab services; sites in Calgary, Edmonton and Central zones

AHS’ executive leadership continues to monitor the situation related to managing COVID-19, and should the launch dates change, the information will be shared through usual AHS channels.

The final implementation, launch 9, is scheduled for Fall, 2024.

All community providers in Alberta need to act so that laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and other investigation results and reports are delivered to your office. As of February 2022, Connect Care identifiers have been distributed to providers and clinics throughout Alberta, via letter mail. To confirm Connect Care IDs for providers and clinics, please visit: provideridlookup.ahs.ca.

Please start using Connect Care IDs immediately and continue to also include non-Connect Care IDs on requisitions.

Important Netcare update

As of January 20, the “COVID-19 Treatment” folder is available in Alberta Netcare Portal (ANP). The folder will be displayed in the clinical documents viewer only if a patient has received the monoclonal antibody (mAb) “sotrovimab” treatment. The COVID-19 treatment will also add an encounter to the Event History in ANP.

How this affects you
Clinicians who are administering COVID-19 vaccinations can now verify in ANP if their patient has received the mAb treatment. Patients treated with mAb treatments need to wait 90 days prior to their COVID-19 vaccination.

More information
Watch this two-minute training video on how to find the COVID-19 Treatment folder in ANP.
For more information on the ANP release, please refer to the Release Notes.

Survey Corner

Health care partners and other organizations often seek physician feedback through surveys. This month, the following is available for your consideration:

AHS Survey: Physicians’ perception of pharmacists prescribing opioids and controlled substances
Do you have thoughts around pharmacists prescribing opioids and controlled substances? Practicing Alberta physicians (on the general/provisional register) are invited
to take a 10-minute anonymous survey exploring your perceptions. The aim is to involve physicians as important stakeholders to enable and inform collaborative practice. Study approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Alberta: Pro00115230. Questions? Please contact heather.tieu@albertahealthservices.ca.

Treatment options for chronic musculoskeletal pain – physician and patient perspectives

This project aims to gain a better understanding of doctors' and patients’ motivations and expectations regarding the prescription and use of cannabis for chronic musculoskeletal pain. Participation in this project consists solely in the completion of an online questionnaire which will take about 15 minutes. The Research Ethics Board of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval Research Center has assessed project MP-20-2020-4962's compliance with the principles governing research ethics.
