Connect Community of Practice August 19 Recap

CII/CPAR Connect shares recent milestones— demonstrating your impact on continuity of care across Alberta. Read on for EMR updates, and upcoming learning opportunities.

CII/CPAR Milestones

  • 1,041 clinics are live
  • 977 physicians live on PCPCM

Updates

Conflicts Dashboard

The new Conflict dashboard displays the overall conflict rate as well as tracking the number of conflicts resolved monthly. Thanks to clinics' hard work, we continue to see a record number of resolved conflicts each month.
Check the PCPCM Payments & CPAR Conflicts page for dashboard updates each month.

PCN/AMA-ACTT Conflicts Meetings continue

AMA-ACTT continues meeting with some PCNs to discuss how we can collaboratively support clinics with panels over 1,000 patients and conflict rates above 25%. We are using this invaluable feedback in co-designing tools and resources to support conflict reduction work.

Operation CPAR Conflicts

Physician only webinar: Join Dr. Andie Bains, Dr. Sarah Bates, and AMA-ACTT for the launch of a new Alberta-wide initiative, Operation CPAR Conflicts: The Final Panel Frontier. In this webinar, physicians will hear from their peers about how Conflicts affect both patient care and physician workload, and gain practical strategies for reducing their Conflict Rate. This webinar is open to all paneling physicians, regardless of which funding model they use.

Encourage physicians to register today: Operation CPAR Conflicts | AMA Events, Sep 23 at 6 p.m.

Note that the PF Network webinar on Oct 6 will cover the same content as this Sep 23 physicians-only webinar, and Clinic Manager Network members will be invited.

Q&A Highlights

Q: Is there a maximum panel size for physicians joining PCPCM?
A: There is no set maximum panel size. However, extremely large panels may be flagged by Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS) for review before onboarding them to PCPCM.

If a physician has applied but hasn’t been accepted yet, have them reach out to the PCPCM form submission team at health.pcpcmform@gov.ab.ca.  If you have questions or need further support related to PCPCM please contact: PCPCM@albertadoctors.org.

Q: Why isn’t a physician’s name showing in Netcare for an attached patient?
A: There are several possible causes to investigate:

  • CPAR Conflicts: if the patient has CPAR conflicts, only the provider with the most recent Validation Date will be displayed in Netcare.  Their name will be followed by a number, like this: “Dr. John Simpson (2)”.  This indicates the patient is attached to two CPAR panels. Hover your mouse over the primary care provider’s name to see the other conflicting providers. If the provider you’re supporting is not listed at all, see below for potential causes.
  • Demographic Mismatches: Patients with mismatched demographics are excluded from CPAR panels.
  • Panel Submission Errors: Check the Panel Uploads tab for details of any upload errors that may have prevented inclusion in the CPAR panel.
  • EMR settings: if the patient’s EMR record is missing one of criteria for inclusion in the CPAR upload (e.g. no date of last visit, assigned a non-CPAR Status, etc.), this could be the cause.

The new Panel List of Active Attachments Report can help clinics confirm whether a patient has been successfully uploaded to CPAR or not. If you find a patient that is on the Panel List report (i.e., they have been successfully attached to the CPAR panel) and yet the provider’s name is still not visible in Netcare, you may want to contact eHealthProviderSupport@gov.ab.ca to report this issue.
