Introducing: Operation CPAR Conflicts

Join us for the launch of a new Alberta‑wide initiative at our webinar, Operation CPAR Conflicts: The Final Panel Frontier. This session will offer strategies to reduce Conflict Rates, closing a critical gap in continuity and help PCPCM physicians understand when Conflicts may impact their compensation.

CPAR Conflicts are not exclusive to the PCPCM - all paneling physicians, regardless of funding model, are encouraged to attend!

September 23
6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Presenter: Dr. Andie Bains, Family Physician & ACTT Physician Leader (APL)
Host: Dr. Sarah Bates, President, Section of Family Medicine (SFM)

Attendance is limited to AMA Member Physicians - REGISTER NOW

New Resource: PCPCM Payments & CPAR Conflicts

Physicians enrolled in the Primary Care Physician Compensation Model (PCPCM) are expected to use the first year of the program to implement clinic paneling processes and resolve CPAR panel conflicts. PCPCM physicians have between April 1, 2025 and April 1, 2026, to do this work, regardless of their model enrolment date.

After the grace period ends, if a panel conflict remains, one or both physicians may not receive monthly panel payments for that patient. Read an overview of CPAR Conflicts for PCPCM users and how physicians and teams can get started on this essential work.

Watch for a new SFM member survey

Late last year, the Section of Family Medicine (SFM) conducted a member survey to learn about member practices and key issues. A follow-up survey is currently being developed that will gather similar information, along with questions geared specifically to those who have already joined the PCPCM or are considering joining.

We’ve heard informally from many PCPCM physicians that they are seeing improvements, but want to know more about how the PCPCM has impacted your practice so far and how it has influenced your plans.

Please watch your inbox for an email about the survey and consider taking time to complete it. Your input and insight would be greatly appreciated!

Updated: PCPCM Operations Manual

Version 4.0 of the PCPCM Operations Manual is now live, with new information on written notices to the Minister, changes to Ministry and Agency names, enhanced Statement examples and a new report for monitoring your PCPCM panel size. Explore the latest changes here.

Updates to AMA Member Dashboard Data

Until recently, through the AMA Member Portal, physicians had access to monthly updates from Primary & Preventative Health Services (previously provided by Alberta Health) on their CPAR PCPCM Panel calculation and Average Panel Complexity Payment per Patient data.

Going forward, only physicians who are NOT participating in PCPCM will see these figures updated, while PCPCM physicians will see out-of-date pre-enrolment data.

Here’s how PCPCM physicians can continue to monitor panel size and ensure ongoing eligibility:

Access New CPAR Report: Panel Submission Metrics

This report displays details about the last six months of panel submissions, including the number of patients uploaded from the EMR, demographic mismatches, attachment errors, total active attachments and Conflicts.

PCPCM physicians or their panel administrator can access the report in their CPAR Portal.

PCPCM application and BA rules

The PCPCM application process remains open, and qualifying physicians are encouraged to enrol at any time. For information on monthly deadlines and corresponding start dates, see the March 24 Alberta Government Bulletin.

As a reminder, once Alberta Health approves an application, physicians must follow the Ministerial Order (MO) rules, which stipulate that new PCPCM BAs must be used for eligible claims on the first of the month.

If physicians are unsure about their ability to start working in the PCPCM, they can still complete an Expression of Interest, but should hold off on submitting a formal application.

PCPCM resources

The AMA has developed various support tools and guides to assist with the PCPCM launch and transition. These resources are intended to help physicians decide if the PCPCM is right for their practice, offer guidance on the enrolment process and help physicians and teams navigate the transition.
