AMA Health Benefits Trust Fund - enroll now!

The annual AMA HBTF enrollment period is open until March 1. 

There are no health questions or medical tests required to enroll in AMA HBTF and no pre-existing condition exclusions apply. Coverage commences the first of the month following receipt of your application. 

Two distinct components of AMA HBTF enable you to customize your health care plans to suit your needs: 

  • Core Plan (required)
  • Cost-Plus Plan (optional)

New ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration clinic opens in Red Deer

Alberta Precision Laboratories is pleased to announce that they are offering a NEW ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) outpatient clinic at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. 

The clinic opened on January 1 and operates bi-weekly on Mondays from 12 - 4 p.m. This is a new service offered to all Central Zone physicians and patients to assist with a wait times in the region -especially for thyroid FNAs.

Use your CME dollars! 

Deadline to use CME allotment is March 31

Physicians have until March 31 to use their CME allotment and will have until April 15 to submit their claims to the AMA for reimbursement. 

AMA members are entitled to a benefit of 
$2,200 for CME expenses incurred between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. For more information – including tips on how to make an easy and quick CME claim, visit the AMA website.

AMA seeks 2025 nominations for our

esteemed awards

The Alberta Medical Association is calling for Achievement Award nominations for individuals who have contributed to the improvement of the quality of health care in Alberta. 

The Medal for Distinguished Service is given to a physician(s) who has made an outstanding personal contribution to medicine and the people of Alberta, and in the process has contributed to the art and science of medicine while raising the standards of medical practice. 

The Medal of Honour is awarded to a non-physician(s) who has raised the standards of health care and contributed to the advancement of medical research, medical education, health care organization, health education and/or health promotion to the public. 

The AMA Award for Compassionate Service honours a physician who is an AMA member and during their career has demonstrated outstanding compassion, philanthropy and/or volunteerism to improve the state of the community in which they are giving back. 

The Medal for Excellence and Achievement in Rural/Remote Medicine is awarded to a physician(s) who has made an outstanding personal contribution to patients of rural/remote Alberta and to the community(ies) in which they live. 

Nominations must be submitted by April 30. The awards will be presented at the AMA’s Fall 2025 President's Dinner in Edmonton.

Now live! Access training

AMA-ACTT’s new Access to Continuity for Primary Care Training is now available. 

This new on-demand training for primary care supports timely access to care for your patients — an important part of team-based care. 

It is designed to suit your schedule and pace, taking roughly four hours to complete. 

Reviewed by Alberta physicians, the 14-course curriculum is hosted on AMA-ACTT's online learning platform, Learn@AMA.

Attend WCB-Alberta's 10th Annual Community Physician Education conference

Primary care physicians are invited to register for WCB-Alberta’s virtual continuing education conference on March 15 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
